Where can I drop my baby off? The “Safe Haven Baby Box”
Technically it is not a box, but it is established by states for birth mothers or birth parents to safely surrender their baby if they cannot care for the baby or keep the baby safe. These laws were established to try and discourage people discarding their babies in unsafe life-threatening manners.
PLEASE UNDERSTAND IF YOU CANNOT SAFELY TAKE CARE OF YOUR BABY RIGHT NOW TAKE IT TO A SAFE HAVEN such as Fire Department, hospital, or any designated haven location.
Some things to consider about safe have baby drop offs.
- This is State program and after the baby receives medical attention it will go into the foster care system.
- While information from birth parents would be appreciated some states allow you to be 100% anonymous.
- You will not have any control of your baby’s future it will be decided by the State.
Options to consider.
- You can reach out to a Licensed adoption agency to surrender your child and they can plan to pick your baby up from you as soon as possible.
- Many Licensed adoption agencies are safe havens.
- After your baby is surrendered to a licensed adoption agency, they do not use the foster system.
- You can make decisions for your baby’s future such as selecting family, future contact, and piece of mind your baby will be in one loving stable environment.
- If you contact a licensed adoption agency before baby is born it is 100% confidential and plans can be made to pick up your baby right when baby is born.
